Orient parted ways with former Sheffield Wednesday full back Ian Hendon yesterday following a run of one win in ten matches.

But the O’s remain in pole position to sign Gnanduillet who has found himself on the fringes at the Proact.

The 23-year-old was an unused substitution for the defeat at Wigan Athletic on Saturday, having returned from a three-month loan spell at Stevenage where he scored six goals.

Gnanduillet – who had loans with Tranmere Rovers and Oxford United last season – last scored for Chesterfield more than a year ago in the 3-0 home win over Port Vale.

That was his 12th goal for the club. In total he has made 36 starts and 62 appearances off the bench.

Spireites boss Danny Wilson is likely to offload one or two other fringe players in order to finance the signing of a new defender.

At present, Wilson can call on just two fit central defenders with league experience.

Wilson was pleased with his side’s second half performance at Wigan. Chesterfield were 3-0 down at the break with the game finishing 3-1.

He said: “We saw a different team in the second half, it was more like us and how we have been in recent games.

“That was more pleasing, but overall with the chances we’ve had and the situations we’ve created, we’ve been too loose with a pass or taking too long on the ball and that has cost us.

“If you look at the whole picture of the game, we’ve had as many chances as they have but at times we didn’t work smart.

“You can’t question the players and their work ethic, and having had a better second half, I’m sure that all the players are looking forward to the Millwall game.”

Wilson has no new injury worries following the game.

Drew Talbot came off the bench for his return from injury but defender Ian Evatt remains sidelines for at least a fortnight with an ankle problem.
