Chesterfield sign young goalkeeper on loan from Barnsley

Chesterfield have signed young goalkeeper Corey Addai on loan from Barnsley.

The 23-year-old joined the Spireites on Tuesday ahead of the Altrincham match on a 28-day loan.

The 6ft 7ins stopper linked up with the Reds’ under-23s in September following a successful trial after leaving Coventry City.

He had been at Arsenal before signing for the Sky Blues when he was 16.

Addai has previously had loan spell at Telford United and Redditch United.

Distribution and physicality are said to be Addai’s main strengths.

“I’d probably say that’s one of the strongest parts of my game – especially with crosses, coming to claim,” he said after joining Barnsley. “Being 6’7, it does help,” he added.

On signing Addai, Barnsley youth coach, Martin Devaney, said: “He’s going to be a big asset. “Physically, he ticks all the boxes and technically as well – he’s got a good range of passing, is comfortable in possession.”
