Chesterfield: New boy Anderson relishing Spireites chance

Tom Anderson, borrowed from ex-Spireites skipper Sean Dyche’s Burnley, signed to the end of the season ahead of Monday’s transfer window closure.

The big centre-half explained how the move came about.

“It was mentioned on Friday and then it all happened very quickly. Over the weekend I was hoping it would get done, but you never know what will happen.

“I know the Burnley manager is a hero around here and he knows the club well and spoke of the good set-up. I think he wanted me to come to a club that he trusts.”

Anderson had a spell at Carlisle last season but has played only reserve football this season.

He added: “I’ve been trying to get out on loan and get some experience and the manager mentioned it to me, I wanted to get game.

“There’s a good bunch of lads here; you could see that from the training we’ve done.

“They look good, organised and now I can’t wait to get started. I hope to play. Every boy at my age wants to get experience and develop as a player. Hopefully I can get that and do my best for Chesterfield.”

Anderson and midfielder Gary Liddle are the two new men most likely to be considered for a starting berth.

Ex-Sheffield United man Connor Dimaio may have to settle for a bench spot.

Liddle looks certain to come in for now-departed Sam Morsy while Anderson will be hoping to displace either Sam Hird or Charlie Raglan as boss Danny Wilson desperately tries to shore up a leaky backline.
