Chesterfield manager James Rowe makes bookies' list for Preston North End job
When it comes to bookies’ odds on managerial vacancies it is fair to say we should take them with a pinch of salt.
Sometimes they provide a decent overview of who is available, and other times they can be absolutely miles off.
Not long ago a group of mates managed to get their pal among the odds for a vacancy, according to one social media post.
So it may or may not come as a surprise to Chesterfield fans to learn that Spireites boss James Rowe has made the Sky Bet list for the Preston North End job.
Rowe is a 20/1 shot to take over at Deepdale following the departure of Alex Neil on Sunday after almost four years in charge.
Other 20/1 shots include John Terry, Joey Barton, Paul Lambert, Slaven Bilic and Tony Pulis.
Neil was sacked after just one win in nine, leaving PNE in 16th in the Championship.
Wycombe Wanderers manager Gareth Ainsworth is the favourite at 5/1, with Michael Appleton (8/1) and Daniel Stendel (10/1) the other frontrunners, according to the bookies.
Rowe has lost just four of his 19 matches in charge at Town since being appointed in November, giving the Blues a chance of making the National League play-offs.
His recruitment and eye-catching style of play has took the Spireites from relegation candidates to promotion contenders.
He signed a new contract extension until the summer of 2023 in March after he was reportedly linked with jobs in League Two following Chesterfield’s impressive run of form.
