The Spireites know that if they beat the Latics at Boundary Park in the 12.30pm kick-off and then Barnet don’t win at Woking at 3pm then they will be champions and promoted back to the EFL by 5pm.

But if neither or only one of those things happens then the Blues will be made to wait a few more days to win the league. They travel to Halifax on Wednesday night and then host Boreham Wood next Saturday.

There is positive news on the injury front, manager Paul Cook has all his players to choose from excect on-loan Sheffield United defender Miguel Freckleton, who remains out with a hamstring injury.

Asked who is not available for Saturday, coach Danny Webb told the DT: “It is just Miguel Freckleton. We are looking good in that department. Ryan Colclough is back now and nearly scored the other night. Jeff King’s back is fine now so he is available for selection. It has been a good season for injuries and that is credit to everyone behind the scenes who make sure the lads stay fit and the lads themselves because a few of them have played through the pain-barrier here and there. The gaffer has known when to rest them so all-round, in the injury department, it has been a good season.”

Despite not being available, Freckleton will travel with the squad to Oldham, which was something he requested himself.

Webb said: "He pulled me the other night and said ‘do you mind if I come to the game?’ That is fantastic. As much as he is a Sheffield United player his loyalties lie with us at the moment. He has played a big part in our journey. For people like Frecks to turn up and support the team from afar is credit to him.”
