After nine years of involvement with the Spireites, Dave Allen is on the verge of selling up, according to Derbyshire Times sources.

The casino magnate first invested in Town in 2009.

Negotiations have been ongoing for a significant period of time but a deal is now believed to be close.

Allen, who quit as chairman in 2016, recently gave his first press interviews for years at the unveiling of Martin Allen as manager.

The first team boss, speaking this morning at a soccer school appearance with his squad, told the Derbyshire Times that his recruitment plans were ‘on hold’ for a few days.

“All that, for the time being, is being put on hold,” he said.

“I will have to wait for a few more days, everything has just been put on hold.”
