Louis Dodds has made over 400 league appearances in a 12-year career but never found himself in the situation he currently faces.

The attacker joined Chesterfield on an 18-month contract back in January but after the departure of the man who signed him, and the club’s relegation to the National League, his future is shrouded in uncertainty.

“I’ve never had it before, it’s an odd thing,” he said.

“I can’t say I’m definitely going to stay and I can’t say I’m definitely going to go because I don’t know who the manager is going to be.

“I think the lads are in that same position.”

Dodds, who played six games in the Conference in a loan spell at Northwich at the start of his career, admits he has had a few second thoughts about his decision to leave Shrewsbury for the Proact, but insists there have been upsides to the move.

“I do and I don’t,” he said.

“I’ve met a lot of really good people in this club, from the ladies who serve us dinner, right down to the medical staff. The lads have been brilliant with me since I’ve come in.

“Obviously dropping out of the league isn’t ideally what I wanted to do, but sometimes in life you have to do things that put you out of your comfort zone and hopefully I’ll learn something from this.

“I’m 31 now and you want to stay as high as you can for as long as you can and then you think you can drop down a little bit.

“It’s one of those, if I’m still here I’ll give 100 per cent for this club and if I’m not I’ve enjoyed my time here.

“I’m not big time enough to think I’m too good for the Conference. I just know you need a strong squad, full of men ready to go to war every game, to have a right good go at it.”
