Goal-scoring promotion winner Will Grigg leaves Chesterfield
‘I’ll be forever grateful for the love and support that the fans showed me’
Veteran striker Will Grigg’s three-year stay at Chesterfield FC is over.

The forward has ended a period of uncertainty about his future by joining Forest Green Rovers in the National League on a permanent basis.
Grigg came to north Derbyshire from MK Dons in the summer of 2023 for an undisclosed fee and showed his worth, netting 25 times in all competitions to help win promotion back to the EFL.
Over three full seasons he netted 42 goals in 118 appearances.
Grigg said: “It’s been a pleasure to represent this club and I’ll be forever grateful for the love and support that the fans showed me from day one.
“I wish everyone all the best for the future. It is a special club with incredible people working hard every day to be successful.
“It was a big decision for me personally to drop down when I first joined and I haven’t regretted that decision for one second.
“Thank you for everything and I look forward to seeing what the future holds for Chesterfield FC.”
Grigg backed up his initial season with 14 more goals in the first season in League Two which ended in the play-offs but was quieter last term, netting four times in 37 appearances.
He turned 35 in July and although he continued training, he didn’t feature until the EFL Trophy last month before appearing off the subs’ bench in the recent league games against Crawley and Port Vale.
The player has previously been linked with Shrewsbury Town. His contract at Chesterfield was renewed last year ago and was due to end next summer.
Manager Paul Cook has praised Grigg’s application in training and his professionalism throughout.
Speaking today, Cook added: ““I can’t speak highly enough of Will. He has been absolutely outstanding for us at this football club for three years in everything that we’ve done.”
