Chesterfield fans could return to the Technique Stadium this season

Prime Minister Boris Johnson announced his roadmap to get England out of lockdown on Monday.

Football stadiums will open no earlier than May 17 but if everything goes to plan then we could see supporters back in grounds not long after.

Johnson said: “The turnstiles of our sports stadia will once again rotate.”

Large, outdoor stadiums, such as the Techniue Stadium, will be able to have 25 per cent of the total seated capacity.

This means 2,650 Spireites fans could potentially watch the last home game of the season against Dagenham and Redbridge on May 22.

If this happens it will be the first home match with Town fans in attendance for 14 months.

Blues supporters have not been able to go to a home match since the fixture against Harrogate Town on March 3, 2019.

The last Chesterfield game with supporters was two weeks later on March 14 at Dover Athletic.
