A link with Liverpool could see other Anfield prospects joining Ryan Fulton at the Proact.

This week a product of Liverpool’s academy, centre-half Tom Brewitt, played for the Chesterfield reserves against Rotherham United.

Danny Wilson says the 19-year-old is a potential loan signing for January.

And thanks to Liverpool’s willingness for their young players to join in the Spireites’ second string games, there could be others.

The Town boss said: “We’re looking at him, in the longer term, whether it’s at centre-back or further forward.

“It’s great from Liverpool’s point of view and great for us that they allow players to come and train with us with a view to January.

“We’re going to do it a little bit more often as well.”

Goalkeeper Fulton was brought in from Anfield in the summer and has filled in as Town’s first choice goalkeeper during Tommy Lee’s injury absence.

Brewitt, who has represented England at youth level, has been with Liverpool since the age of 11 and signed a new long-term contract earlier this year.

He was joined in Tuesday’s reserve game by former Northampton Town defender Josh Lelan.

Wilson indicated nothing will happen for the 21-year-old, and expressed sympathy for the player, who has failed to earn a contract after trials at Plymouth, Gillingham and now Chesterfield.

The veteran manager said some time at a lower level might help Lelan until he can catch the eye of a Football League club again.

“It is tough, it’s tough for a lot of lads in his position,” said Wilson.

“A lot of lads have left league clubs and still haven’t got anywhere, like Josh. It’s very tough at the moment in time.

“Players like Josh there’s a lot of them out there, but sometimes you have to take a step back and then come again.

“It might be that he has to go and play non-league, go to the National League and then come again. Many players have done that, just to get games and get noticed again.

“He can be a good player, there’s no doubt about it.”
