Chesterfield defender missed Notts County clash with neck injury

Chesterfield defender Chey Dunkley is going to be out injured for a ‘period of time.’

The summer signing was a surprise absentee from the Spireites’ squad in the 2-2 draw against Notts County last Saturday. That was the first game the 32-year-old has missed due to injury this season, with the other being against Grimsby Town because of a suspension.

"He is going to be out for a period of time,” Paul Cook told 1866 Sport. “He has got a neck problem that we have to manage now. He has been for a scan and the specialist wants him to have a break now and a rest and we must abide by that now because of the severity of the injury. He will be a big miss for us.”

Dunkley’s injury meant that Tom Naylor was moved back to centre-half but he is suspended for the trip to Newport County on Friday so that could present an opportunity to the likes of Tyrone Williams or Jamie Grimes.

In other injury news, John Fleck has suffered a hamstring problem and is not going to be available for the timebeing, while Ryan Boot was not involved against Notts County because of a wrist injury, which allowed youngster Ashton Rinaldo to take up a place among the subs.

Chesterfield, who have drawn all of their last three games 2-2, will leap from 12th and into the play-offs with a win on Friday night.
