Chesterfield boss Martin Allen praises 'outstanding' loan keeper Callum Burton

Loan keeper Callum Burton was outstanding on his Chesterfield debut, according to manager Martin Allen.

Burton, drafted into the Spireites’ squad late on Friday, replaced Shwan Jalal, who was stopped to the substitutes; bench after starting all five National League matches before Saturday.

But Burton, despite a terrific performance, was unable to prevent Chesterfield from falling to a third successive defeat as Barnet snatched a last-minute winner.

However, Allen heaped praise on the 22-year-old Hull City shot-stopper, who has signed until January.

“He was outstanding. Some of the saves he made were quite brilliant,” said Allen.

“A 30-yarder in the first half everyone thought was going into the top corner and he tipped that one over. It was a brilliant save.

“In the second half he again made a couple of very good saves.

“He is very highly rated. I have known about him for a long time - his progress and how he has been coming through. He is a very good player.”

Allen also confirmed that the player Burton replaced, Jalal, was fit and on the bench on Saturday.

Chesterfield play Hartlepool on Monday.
