A report in the national media this week claimed the 37-year-old was set to be offered a new improved deal to ‘fend off interest’ from clubs in League Two.

Rowe. who is contracted until the end of the 2022/2023 season, has lost only one of his 13 games in charge in all competitions and has put Chesterfield in a position to be challenging for the play-offs.

On the speculation, Rowe told the DT: “There is nothing I can say at the moment.

“I don’t really look at the speculation, I am not really focusing on what other people say or other press outlets, it is more about what we are doing inside the building because we know best. What I mean by that is that we know what is going on inside the building and how we want to move forward and it is full focus on the games, there are no distractions here. It is all about continuing the momentum.”

When asked by the DT if he would welcome talks about a new contract, he said: “Of course I would. I have really enjoyed my time here. There are a lot of smiles on faces, it is a fantastic environment to be part of now, it is a project. I say it is a project because we have not been in the top half (of the National League table) for three years. A club like this, this stature, we need to be looking at the top half, minimum, and I am delighted to be part of that and leading that process as a manager.”

The Town boss agreed that it is flattering when other clubs higher up in the football pyramid show an interest but that he does not give it much thought.

He added “It is, but it is gone within a second, because we are in the middle of a really heavy period right now. All I am doing is focusing on the team, focusing on the training, getting the best out of every individual within that squad to make sure that if they are selected, I have given them every percentage I can to make sure we can perform at the highest level individually and collectively.”
