Chesterfield have appealed Tom Whelan’s red card against Dagenham and Redbridge on Saturday.

The 24-year-old was sent off on 10 minutes for a challenge on Callum Reynolds.

If they are unsuccessful, Whelan will be suspended for the next three matches.

On the red card, Town manager James Rowe said: “It is the inconsistency of it.

“If you look at the Liverpool game on Sunday where Jordan Henderson has been booted in the head and the player has not even received a booking, where is the consistency?”

Rowe added: “We have appealed it and we are waiting to hear. There is no intent at all.

“I am not angry or disappointed with the decision-making, it happens, it is human nature, we make mistakes. But it seems to be an accumulation against us at the moment and I hope it evens out a little bit. It hasn’t at this stage but I am sure it will over the course of the season.”
