Words were exchanged after the full-time whistle as emotions boiled over.

“I think they are disrespectful in what they say, they should not be saying the things they do,” Rowe said.

"You have got to stand up to it because it is just nonsense isn’t it?

"You have got to protect yourself and you have got to protect the club when things are said that are wrong and go over your non-negotiables. It does not matter whether you are on the street or on the football pitch, you have to stand up to that.

"The person who said those things has got to have a long look in the mirror at themselves because we don’t want that in the game. For all the passion and all the pride and both benches going at it, there is respect and you have got to maintain that respect.”

When asked if he could reveal what was said, he added: "No, I am not going to go into that because I don’t wash my dirty linen in public.

"It is said, it is done, I have said my bit as well on it to him so hopefully he will learn from it.”

Cheek opened the scoring from the penalty spot before George Carline equalised with a brilliant half-volley into the top corner.

Town went ahead for the first time through Manny Oyeleke in the second-half before Cheek’s late equaliser.
