Anthony Gerrard leaves Chesterfield after having contract cancelled

The defender was signed by previous manager John Sheridan in the summer and was made captain but departs after making just 11 appearances.
He lost the captaincy in September when he got involved in a row on social media with a Blues fan.

Hide AdFrom then on his relationship with Chesterfield supporters was beyond repair and he was booed during some matches.
The 33-year-old struggled with injuries and came under fire from Town fans over his weight.
While he was in charge Sheridan admitted that Gerrard was overweight but insisted he was a good leader and that they missed him when he was out.
In November Sheridan said Gerrard was undergoing a fitness programme in a bid to improve his condition.

Hide AdHe played in Tuesday night’s friendly against Staveley Miners Welfare but his last competitive appearance came on December 21 in a 3-0 win at Torquay United.
When asked about Gerrard today, caretaker boss John Pemberton, said: "You have got to be able to do what we want them to do and the important thing for him is that he has to work hard to get himself back in the fold.
"I have spoken to him about that and that is kind of where we are at the moment with it."
A club statement read: “Anthony Gerrard has today left the club after his contract was cancelled by mutual consent.
“The club would like to wish Anthony all the best for the future.”
