Alfreton boss Nicky Law without injured pair for FC United visit

Reds manager Nicky Law will be without Cliff Moyo and Brad McGowan through injury but has top goalscorer Sam Jones available before he begins a three-match suspension the following week.

Following two successive away draws, Law will be eager for his side to find a first league win in four games, which could hopefully provide a catalyst to put together a strong finish to the end of the campaign.

On the road this season, FCUM have won just four times, drawn three and lost the other ten so far. The wins were against Hednesford Town (3-0), Lowestoft Town (4-1) and Stockport County (2-1) whilst the points were shared with Worcester City (0-0), Tamworth (1-1) and Nuneaton Town (2-2), all three draws very creditable results.

On the minus side, they have also taken a few heavy beatings on their travels and have shipped 36 goals from their seventeen games, scoring seventeen in reply.

However, they will arrive in DE55-land buoyed by an excellent 2-1 win at league leaders Solihull Moors on Tuesday night and they will also be looking to exact revenge after Alfreton recorded a 3-1 away win in the first ever game between the sides at Broadhurst Park back on February 13.

On that day, the Reds came from behind to win, Sam Madeley firing United in front on 45+2 minutes to send the hosts in ahead at the break. The second half saw Alfreton dominate and take the points thanks to goals from Lindon Meikle (61), Sam Jones (69) and Dan Bradley (83).

The midweek win lifted FC United six points above the relegation places and a win in Derbyshire would put them just four points behind Alfreton and take them a big step closer to retaining their hard-earned Vanarama National League North status.

Nicky Law’s side still have a mathematical chance of making the play-offs as they lie nine points behind fifth place with eight games to go and a win could lift them up to eighth dependent upon other results on the day.
