'A great sign' - Yeovil Town boss encouraged by dangerman Rhys Murphy's form ahead of Chesterfield clash

The 29-year-old bagged a brace against Dover Athletic in the FA Cup win on Saturday to take his tally for the season to three so far.

Speaking after the Dover match, Sarll said: “A couple of players said to me that looked like Murphy of old, but that is a new Murphy. His intensity, his running power, his link-up play, was very, very impressive and for me that is a really great sign - because of the goals - and it is a really great sign of his evolution as a player. If anybody had any doubts about Rhys then they shouldn’t now and I certainly don’t.”

Yeovil, who qualified for last season’s play-offs but lost to Barnet, have had a strange start to the new campaign with no wins in their first five matches but also suffering only one defeat.

So far the Glovers have drawn 2-2 against King’s Lynn Town and Wealdstone, 1-1 at FC Halifax Town and 0-0 at Dagenham and Redbridge and lost 1-0 at home to Wrexham.

Last season the Glovers beat Chesterfield 2-1 at the Technique Stadium when John Sheridan was in charge, but the game at Huish Park was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch and the rearranged fixture was not played because of the pandemic.

Overall the two clubs have met 12 times with Yeovil just edging it with five wins compared to Chesterfield’s four.
