Debutant Mark impresses in busy month for running club

Buxton and District AC have had a busy couple of weeks, with members competing in a variety of races throughout the High Peak area.

Mark Pursell achieved the stand-out result when he finished an impressive third in the inaugural OMM Ultra Event, a 30 mile race around the trails of the Peak District.

Mark, competing in his first outing at long distance, finished the course in six hours and eight minutes.

The Peak Forest six-mile fell race saw club members Rob White and Jason Bennett cross the line second and third respectively, whilst Sheila Bradley finished 24th but was the second woman home.

Bennett was also in action at the Hathersage Fell Race where he finished 21st in a field of 285 runners. Fellow club members Darran Hawkins (32nd), Roland Meylan (103rd), Pete Bailey (127th), Helen Brunt (217th) and Dave Forshaw (229th) also completed the course.

The Great Hucklow event saw Meylan lead the team home in 66th position with Bailey 74th, Brunt 121st and Bill Alsop 126th.

The junior section of the club also showed it is in rude health at the same event, with Elliot Meylan and Will Tighe both winning their age categories, while Jacob Buckley finished runner-up in his.
