Dame Sarah Storey remains upbeat ahead of road races
Dame Sarah Storey remains upbeat despite narrowly missed out on the medals in the C4-5 500m time trial.
The Dinsley cyclist finished in a time of 37.068 in a race which saw fellow Brit Kadeena Cox set a new world record to take gold in 34.598.
China duo Jufang Zhou (36.004) took silver and Jianping Ruan (36.557) bronze in the velodrome, with another Brit Crystal Lane (37.346) finishing fifth.
Cox takes the title away from Storey who won the race four years previously in London.
Dame Sarah Storey said: “Without a doubt, I shouldn’t be wining a 500m, it should be won by a sprinter. I took an opportunity in London when the sprinters messed up.
“It’s what I expected to be honest. Even if I had been as quick as London I would still be fourth.
“I’m the fastest pursuiter out there and I’ve been beaten by the sprinters which is how it should be.”
She goes again in the C5 time trial on Wednesday and C4-5 road race on Saturday.
