VIDEO: 20 years ago today...Brian Lara sets all-time Test run-scoring record against Australia

Twenty years ago today a piece of sporting history was claimed by Brian Lara in Adelaide, Australia.

The West Indies batsman set a new all-time Test run-scoring record, passing Allan Border’s total of 11,174 runs.

A knock of 226 in the third test against the Aussies took Lara to 11,187.

And it took Lara 35 fewer tests than Border, to reach that total.

He said: “It’s a great feeling. It’s special here, with Allan Border being an Australian.”

Lara was already the holder of the highest individual score in a Test, thanks to his unbeaten 400 against England in April 1995.

And the 501 he scored for Warwickshire a year previous in a game against Durham was the highest score in first-class cricket.
