Derbyshire ground given tour match
Derbyshire CCC’s County Ground has been awarded a major tour match against India, scheduled for next year.
Karl Krikken’s men will compete against MS Dhoni’s side on Tuesday, July 1 in the final warm-up fixture ahead of the five-match Investec test series with England.
Duncan Fletcher’s side – currently ranked the number three test team in the world – boast a heavily experienced and exciting side featuring test legends such as Virender Sehwag, Harbhajan Singh and Sachin Tendulkar.
India last toured England back in 2011.
Chief executive for Derbyshire Simon Storey said: “Tour matches at Derby have been popular over the last few years with the visits of Australia in 2010, South africa in 2012 and New Zealand this season.
“We are delighted to have been selected to host the touring Indian side in 2014.
“The award of this high profile fixture supports our ambition for Derbyshire to become a leading destination for England lions, Women’s internationals and high profile tour matches.
“Wherever India play cricket, they attract a huge and passionate following.
“We’re looking forward to welcoming that tremendous support – and to attracting new supporters from our local community - for what promises to be a memorable occasion.
“It will be a real treat for our members, sponsors and supporters to see Derbyshire take-on some of the best cricketers in the world shortly before India do battle with England in the first test.”
