Chesterfield secure first win of the season

Andrew Parkin-Coates hit 49 not out to help see Chesterfield to victory.

Batting first, visitors Elvaston were bowled out for 213, Saad Sarwary the main wicket taker with 4 for 31 and Marcus Hayes weighing in with 3 for 39.

In reply, opener Luke Westwell hit 72 and although he was fourth man out with the score on 154, Andrew Parkin-Coates took control and saw the win out with an unbeaten 49 alongside Harry Wilmott (20 not out).

Eckington, meanwhile, fell to a second defeat of the campaign, having to make do with seven bonus points from the 44-run loss at home to Ockbrook & Borrowash.

Cameron Gordon took 5 for 34 as the visitors were all out for 178, but Eckington struggled in reply and fell well short, Lewis Staniforth top scoring on 29 not out.

Sandiacre Town made it two out of two with as convincing a win as you’re likely to see at Alvaston & Boulton, easing home by ten wickets.

They’d bowled the hosts out for just 43, Dan Wheeldon taking 6 for 21 and Matt Newbold 4 for 18 in a devastating display that saw the innings last one ball fewer than 16 overs.

The reply was even shorter, James Chapman and Luke Thomas seeing A&B off inside nine overs for a comfortable win.

Marehay lost by 57 runs at Spondon in what was their second loss out of two games, the hosts making 293-6 largely thanks to Josh Brear’s 108.

James Kyte was 82 not out in reply but Marehay ran out of time on 236-8.

Denby notched their first win with a 14-run success at Swarkestone, Mitchell Bradley’s superb 101 helping them to 212-8.

They then bowled Swarkestone out for 198, Pete Burgoyne and James Parkin taking three wickets each as the hosts fell just short.

Langley Mill couldn’t follow up their opening day win as they lost by 67 runs at Ticknall.

Batting first, Ticknall made 259-5 despite former England star Samit Patel taking all five wickets, Elliott Lawley top scoring with 52.

Tom Brandrick hit 62 in reply but Langley Mill fell short, Kiegen Wing also scoring well with 45 in an opening stand of 92 with Brandrick, Ousman Khizer taking the last three wickets with a hat-trick.
