Billy Godleman nears hitting back to back centuries as Derbyshire strengthen grip over Kent

Billy Godleman is approaching his second century of the match after Derbyshire strengthened their grip on the LV County Championship Division Two game against Kent at Derby.

At lunch on the third day, Godleman was unbeaten on 91 with Derbyshire 168 for 2, already 262 runs ahead with rain seemingly Kent’s best hope of avoiding defeat.

Their bowlers needed to strike quickly this morning but Godleman and Chesney Hughes extended their second wicket stand to 114 on a morning when nothing went Kent’s way.

Godleman reached his 50 when he dispatched James Tredwell to the long on boundary for his eighth four and Hughes completed his half-century by sweeping the England spinner to the midwicket boundary before he was bowled going for another big hit in Tredwell’s next over.
