Chesterfield Panthers claw past Ashby to claim first home win since mid-December

Chesterfield Panthers picked up their first success at home since mid-December with a narrow win over Ashby.

Saturday’s Midlands Division Three East (North) clash saw the Panthers hold out for a hard-fought 18-17 victory to leapfrog Ashby in the table.

Chesterfield, who travel across the border to face Ashfield on Saturday, sit fourth - two points above Ashby and three points ahead of Ashfield.

Having won their first consecutive six matches at Dunston Road this season, Panthers suffered back-to-back losses to top two Kesteven and Loughborough.

But they returned to winning ways at home on Saturday and will travel to Nottinghamshire having put recent defeats behind them.

Meanwhile, in Division Two, Dronfield overcame Coalville 31-10 at home to maintain their position at the top of the table.

Bakewell’s scheduled fixture at Mansfield was postponed. They host Market Bosworth on Saturday and Dronfield travel to West Bridgford.

Tupton, in Division Four, scraped past Long Eaton 5-3. They entertain Mellish on Saturday.

Elsewhere, in the same division, Amber Valley lost away at East Retford 88-14 and are home to Long Eaton this coming weekend.
