Ryan stuns champ
Shirebrook boxer Ryan Hopkinson (Chesterfield ABC, 46kg) won his opening fight of the new season with a stunning success over last year’s National Schoolboys champion James Precious (Bridlington ABC) on a show in South Normanton on Friday.
Hopkinson had to keep Precious at bay in round one with his jab and good counter-punches as the champion came out all guns blazing, though late on he lifted Precious off the floor with a body shot. After a close round two, Hopkinson changed tactics, using uppercuts and taking angles to allow him to counter more effectively and an uppercut followed by a vicious left hook put Precious down.
He did well to get up and survive the round, but Hopkinson had done enough for the win.
