Boxer Jade Ashmore named sportswoman of the year

Talented boxer Jade Ashmore, from Heath, was one of several sportspeople from across the district to be honoured for their talent and commitment at North-East Derbyshire Council's annual sports awards ceremony.

Eight awards were presented to athletes, coaches and teams that recognised and celebrated their success and achievements in sport at all levels.

And they included Ashmore, who was named sportswoman of the year and received her accolade from Coun Graham Baxter, the leader of the council.

Coun Baxter said: “I have stood here for more than ten years now, watching talented athletes grow up, mature and become leading sportsmen and women in their field –- and I’m still amazed at the amount, and quality of talent that we have here in North-East Derbyshire.

“I would like to congratulate not only all the winners on their success, but also everyone who was nominated for these awards.”

Other winners included biketrials world champion Adam Morewood, who was junior sportsperson of the year, Chris Jones, of Dronfield Swimming Club, who was volunteer of the year, and Tupton Hall School U13 girls’ football team, who were named junior team of the year.
