Allen makes Proact return and talks possible January transfer activity with Lester

Allen walked out as club chairman in November 2016 at a stormy AGM and hasn’t returned until last week’s visit to watch a behind-closed-doors friendly.
The businessman met with recently appointed first team boss Jack Lester, his assistant Nicky Eaden, first team coach Tommy Wright and the backroom staff.

“I spoke to Dave Allen last week. It was good, very good,” said Lester.
“He was positive, he was – the best word is probably ambitious – on what he wanted to do on the football pitch.
“He’s looking to back the football club and it was a very positive conversation.”

The former Town striker and club legend says the owner’s backing will be crucial for him in his managerial debut.
“He has put a lot of money into this football club.
“He came down to watch the reserves play, wanted to speak to all the staff, asked what we needed and was fully supportive of what we’re trying to do.
“It’s invaluable as a manager to have an owner that’s looking to support you.”

Hide AdCompany secretary Ashley Carson revealed that the January transfer window was a topic of conversation during Allen’s visit.
“He came down to meet Jack, Nicky and Tommy, wanted to know about the team and their assessment,” he said.
“They discussed possible transfer activity after Christmas and he agreed to come to a match soon.
“Dave is convinced we have got the right team together now and agrees with me our mistake was not to sack Gary in the summer, then bring in a new manager with a clean sheet to bring players in.
“That was a definite mistake.”
