Youngsters '˜toddle' to raise cash for Barnardo's

Toddlers at two Chesterfield nurseries have been celebrating after raising £1,500 for children's charity Barnardo's.

Youngsters from Children 1st at St Peter and St Paul and Children 1st at Chesterfield Royal Hospital raised the money by taking part in the Barnardo’s Big Toddle.

The Barnardo’s Big Toddle is the UK’s largest charity event for under fives and involves young children undertaking a short sponsored walk to help raise money for the vital work the charity undertakes with some of the UK’s most vulnerable children.

The theme of this year’s big toddle was ‘animals’ and children from the nurseries were invited to dress up in animal costumes.

Head of regional fundraising (North) for Barnardo’s Samantha Kryiacou, said: “Holding annual events, such as the Big Toddle, are crucial to our charity. I am amazed by the effort the children made as well as the generous support from parents and friends of the nurseries.”

Margaret Mason, founder and chief executive of Children 1st, added: “Thank you to everyone who helped us make the day possible and to Barnardo’s for the determined work they do and dedication they have to helping vulnerable children across the country.”
