Woman pinned to ground by man in South Normanton in early hours of New Year’s Day

Police are appealling for witnesses after a woman was assaulted by a man in the early hours of New Year’s Day.

At about 1.30am yesterday, a woman was walking alone along Lea Vale, in Broadmeadows, South Normanton, after a night out at the Boundary public house.

She was approached by a man who knocked her to the ground, pinned her down and made suggestive comments.

The woman shouted at the man and he made off back up Lea Vale towards the Boundary.

The man was described as white, 6ft tall, of a large build with dark hair and was wearing a short black jacket. He spoke with a local accent.

A Derbyshire police spokesman said: “We would like to trace a man who shouted while the assault was taking place.

“The offender walked towards the man after the incident.”
