Woman attacked teen girl

Derby Crown Court heard this month how Ruby Radford inflicted the injury on August 15 after she claimed the victim had bullied her sister.

Recorder Robin Rowland told Radford: “This was a mean, violent and serious assault.

“Kicking anyone who is defenceless has very serious connotations with the injuries and the view the court will take.

“She had a double fracture of the jaw, requiring an operation and could not eat for three days.”

Radford, 20, of Heath Road, Ripley, admitted causing grievous bodily harm. She was sent to a young offenders’ institution.

Will Bennett, mitigating, said Radford was wearing soft Ugg boots.

He said: “It is clear this defendant believed her younger sister was being bullied by the victim.

“This was not a premeditated assault as much as this defendant didn’t seek her out.

“They happened across each other by chance.

“There is a very brief conversation and unfortunately the victim laughs.

“The defendant foolishly lost her temper.

“She recognises this must have been a horrifying and extremely unpleasant incident for the victim and she regrets that.”

Alex Wolfson, prosecuting, said the incident took place in the evening in Heanor town centre and was “an unprovoked attack”.

Sarcastic comments were made and Radford grabbed the girl, according to Mr Wolfson, and the pair struggled with each other before the girl fell.

Mr Wolfson said Radford knelt over her and punched her and twice kicked the girl on the ground.

Mr Wolfson added: “These were full force kicks with a shod foot to the head.”
