Witnesses sought following Grassmoor distraction burglary

Detectives are appealing for witnesses after cash was stolen from an elderly man during a distraction burglary at a house in Grassmoor.

The 82-year-old answered the door of his home on Mill Lane to two men claiming to be checking the chimney on behalf of the council at around 9am today (Friday, April 4).

The victim allowed the men into his house and one of the men stayed with him in the living room.

Police believe the other man then searched the house and stole cash. The men left after around ten minutes.

A neighbour then came to check on the victim as he had seen two men drop some cash outside the house before picking it up and running away.

The victim then discovered cash was missing from an upstairs room and police were alerted.

The first man is described as white with a tanned complexion, around 5ft 7ins tall, between 20 and 30 years old and of a large build.

They both wore blue baseball caps, black padded jackets, black trousers and boots.
