Which Derbyshire sites are among the UK's most visited tourist attractions?

Three Derbyshire sites have been named among the most visited tourist attractions in the UK.

Chatsworth, Bolsover Castle and Hardwick Hall are all featured in the list of the top 241 sites across the country, published by the Association of Leading Visitor Attractions (ALVA).

The British Museum topped the list, with Chatsworth at number 58, having seen a 3.2 per cent increase in visitor numbers in 2016.

Overall, the UK saw an average increase of 7.2 per cent on 2015’s visitor numbers to UK attractions. Scottish attractions had the greatest increase of 15.6 per cent growth. Overall 129,948,728 visits were made to the top 241 ALVA sites in the UK.

London locations made up all of the top 10, which comes as no surprise, given that 66,938,947 people – more than the total population of the UK - visited attractions in the capital.

The British Museum continued to be the most popular visitor attraction overall for the 10th year running with 6,420,395 visitors, followed by the National Gallery with 6,262,839 visitors – up by 6 per cent on the 2015 figure.
