What are your memories of entertainer Cilla Black?

The popular Scouser passed away at her home in Spain. Her death was announced yesterday (Sunday) and is thought to be from natural causes.

Cilla’s musical career was overseen by the Beatles’ manager Brian Epstein, whom she met while working as a cloakroom assistant at Liverpool’s famous Cavern Club.

She enjoyed a successful recording career in the 1960s and 70s, scoring eleven Top Ten hits on the British charts between 1964 and 1971.

She then went on to become a TV presenter, and is perhaps best known for hosting popular prime-time shows Blind Date and Surprise Surprise. Her catchprases, which included a “lorra, lorra laughs” and “Our Graham”, endeared her to the nation and she enjoyed a showbusiness career that spanned five decades.

Paying tribute to Cilla, Sir Paul McCartney said: “She was a lovely girl who infected everyone with her great spirit. She had a fine distinctive voice and was always a bit of a laugh. It was a privilege to know and love her.”

And singer Ronan Keating said: “Saddened to hear about the passing of Cilla Black. A true showbiz legend.”
