Photos show the extent of flooding in Bakewell following Storm Christoph

These photos show the extent of flooding in Bakewell after Derbyshire was hit by heavy rainfall overnight.

Storm Christoph caused flooding inside homes in Wye Bank but Derbyshire Fire & Rescue said a joint decision was taken that evacuation of residents wasn’t necessary.

Water levels at the River Wye at Ashford in the Water reached 1.29 metres on Thursday morning but have since dropped.

Derbyshire Dales District Council said 2,100 sandbags were issued in 24 hours.

Darren Perrott, station manager at Bakewell Fire Station, who had been at the scene in Wye Bank, said: “The rivers are extremely high and the water is flowing faster than any strong swimmer could negotiate – please stay safe, keep away.”
