Volunteers land nearly £13k to improve Chesterfield park
A community group has been awarded nearly £13,000 to improve their park.
A boggy section of Stand Road Park at Whittington Moor, Chesterfield will be transformed into a wetland feature with reeds and irises, paths around it and bird boxes.
Work on the project will start this summer, mostly carried out by volunteers.
Friends of Stand Road have been allocated £12,765 by Viridor Credits Environmental Company for the project. The award has come through the Landfill Communities Fund which requires a third party organisation to contribute ten percent of the project cost in order to secure the funding. A contribution of £1,300 has been awarded by Chesterfield Borough Council.
Graham King, chair of the Friends group, said: “We are grateful to Viridor Credits and to Chesterfield Borough Council for awarding the money needed to make the project possible. The boggy section of the park has long been the subject of complaints from visitors. This project will create a feature of interest that will also add more structure to the park”.
