Village campsite thefts spark warning

Police in Hathersage are advising campers to remove valuables from their tents following thefts in the area.

Between 11am and 6.15pm on Monday, April 21, offenders entered a tent on a campsite on Birley Lane, Hathersage.

A Mammut sports jacket, a Sony Experia Z mobile phone and a wallet with cash were taken.

Between 10.30am and 6.30pm on the same date, offenders entered a tent and took a Samsung mobile phone from within.

PCSO Anthony Boswell, of the Hathersage Safer Neighbourhood Team, said: “I would encourage all campers not to leave any valuables in their tent while unattended.

“It only takes a few minutes for a criminal to enter a tent and search through belongings to steal.”

Anyone with any information about the incidents is asked to call police on 101 quoting crime reference 16405/14.
