VIDEO: Protesters on the roof of Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg’s Sheffield office

The protest started on Monday night at the office on Nethergreen Road, Nether Green.

Activists Martin Matthews, from Great Bookham, in Surrey and Robert Cardwadine, from Torquay, plan to stay on the roof until the polling stations close on Thursday evening.

Robert - who is dressed as superhero Flash - said the support from passersby has been ‘unbelievable’.

“We have been absolutely amazed by the local support. They have been coming down with packs of food and flasks, which is unbelievable.

“The police here too, but they have been really good.”

The campaigners are calling on Mr Clegg to help the come out about historic child sexual abuse allegations within Westminster.

Robert said: “Nick Clegg has been saying this election has been about party politics rather than the people, so we have taken on the challenge and will focus on Mr Clegg.

“He has been in the balance of power for the last five years and done nothing to help any of the services of anyone to do with child abuse.

“He has ignored it. He just will not help and will not come clean and tell us what he knows.

“We want the personalities highlighted. We are not party political.

“We are looking for the truth and pushing for the truth so we can continue having faith in British politics.”

A spokesman for Mr Clegg said: “The actions of abusers were horrific. They have ruined people’s lives, and it is right that all must be done to get to the truth.

“There are police investigations underway, as well as the Independent Panel Inquiry into Child Sexual Abuse under Justice Lowell Goddard. These must be allowed to do their job, and have our full support.

“The horrific actions represent very serious criminal offences. They must and are being fully investigated by the police and the Independent Inquiry, which is the appropriate approach for such serious criminal matters.”
