Television viewers tuning in to see the new series of Michael McIntyre’s Big Show on Saturday night will see Heanor’s Andy Quinn singing live on stage at the Theatre Royal, Drury Lane.

Andy, who works for Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service, appears in the BBC One entertainment show’s ‘Unexpected Star’ segment - which gives aspiring performers the chance to shine in front of a live audience - and the millions watching on TV.

After being nominated by his wife, an unsuspecting Andy was tricked by his work colleagues into heading to London to give, what he thought, was a fire safety talk to a small group.

In fact, the people in the room, which was next door to the theatre, were all actors in on the ruse and being controlled via earpieces by McIntyre.

You’ll have to tune in on Saturday night at 8.10pm to find out exactly what happens - and what song Andy sings - but the performance certainly made an impression on the show’s host.

Speaking during an interview to promote the returning series, McIntyre says: “The fireman in the first show is completely mind-blowing. I’ve never heard that song sung so well, it’s incredibly emotional.

“When I had the idea originally for it (Unexpected Stars), I never thought it was going to be a platform for talent.

“It is what it is, they are a member of the public who is going to be the unexpected star of the show.”
