A Citroen Saxo collided with a Citroen Xsara on Sheffield Road just outside the St Helens Inn shortly after 10pm.

The road was completely blocked by the ‘high speed impact’ which, according to eyewitnesses, left the Saxo with its entire front end missing.

The police, fire and ambulance services were all in attendance and there was lots of debris but, astonishingly, everyone inside the vehicles escaped uninjured.
