VIDEO: Biggest ever Chapel Carnival

Chapel Carnival celebrated its best attendance yet on Saturday, thanks to sunny weather and great participation.

Unlike other festivities in High Peak, the annual event in Chapel-en-le-Frith doesn’t have a theme, prompting many floats, businesses and school children to embrace the World Cup or World War One attire and decor, in honour of the centenary.

One of the organisers, Jeanette Saxby, said: “It went really well. The weather was on our side for a change and we had our best-ever turnout to the ground. We think there was about 1,500 people. Normally, we get about 1,000. I think it was due to the weather.”

She added: “The standard of businesses entering was very high and we had more entries than usual, about 30. The Roebuck Inn was definitely the best decorated. It was outstanding.

“We had about 30 items, including floats, bands and walking groups, in the procession this year. It was great, it took about 20 to 25 minutes to go past. We’re hoping to have a longer parade next year.

“It was a really lovely atmosphere, a great day for the family, full of community spirit with no trouble.”

Next year’s Chapel Carnival will take place on June 20.
