UPDATE: Man airlifted to hospital and road remains closed after smash involving bus and cars

A multi-vehicle smash involving a bus and more than one car has closed a road in Chesterfield.

Brimington Road in Tapton, Chesterfield is currently shut, according to Derbyshire Police, as of about 6pm.

Derbyshire Police tweeted: “Brimington Road, Chesterfield, is closed due to a serious collision involving a bus and cars. Traffic problems anticipated.”

Police have revealed that a man was airlifted to hospital with serious injuries following the smash between a Vauxhall Astra, a Renault Megane and a double decker bus.

A statement from Derbyshire Constabulary released this evening said: “Police were called to Brimington Road at around 5.10pm following reports that a double decker bus, a Vauxhall Astra and a Renault Megane had collided.

“The driver of the Renault was airlifted to the Queen’s Medical Centre in Nottingham. He suffered serious injuries.

“The man driving the Astra went to hospital in Chesterfield with minor injuries and several bus passengers also suffered minor injuries.

“The road remains closed this evening while police continue to investigate the collision and recovery teams work to remove the bus and cars.”

Anyone with information should call police on 101, quoting incident number 519 of March 3.
