TRAVEL UPDATE: Derbyshire schools, buses and roads closed

A number of roads and schools around the Derbyshire Peaks are disrupted by snow today.

Buxton Community School has announced it is to close at noon for the rest of the day.

Traffic alerts this morning (Friday, March 4) are warning motorists that Snake Pass in High Peak is closed in both directions between Ladybower Reservoir and Royal Oak Inn, Glosop due to snow.

Expect severe delays to divert journeys from the A57.

The A537 between Buxton and Macclesfield is also closed between the Bull-Hill-Lane junction in Macclesfield and the A54 junction in Buxton.

And there is further disruption on the A5004 between Buxton and Whaley Bridge with hazardous driving conditions.

SCHOOLS

Both Chapel-en-le-Frith High School and New Mills School and Sixth Form are closed today.

9am: Whaley Bridge Primary School, St. Georges C E (VA) Primary School, Newton Primary School and Furness Vale primary school are also closed due to worsening conditions.

10am: Saint Mary's Catholic Primary School and Charlesworth Primary School have now been closed.

11am: Buxton Community School to close at noon.

High Peak council is asking parents to collect children from Hague Bar Primary School as soon as they can.

TRANSPORT

Trains are now running on the Buxton to Manchester line but with delays, after a broken down train caused disruption this morning.

On the buses, High Peak Buses services 58 and 390 are not running while others are not serving their full routes, including:

Service 61 is not using Long Hill

Service 60 is suspended due to road closure, but serice 62 has resumed.

The 442 from Buxton to Ashbourne is running as a 441

The 190 isn’t serving Shallcross.

The 9.30am and 11.15am buses on the 199 service have been cancelled due to the traffic issues on the A6.

There is very heavy traffic on the A6 from Chapel bypass through to Stockport is causing significant delays to services.

High Peak Buses says all services operating in and out of Glossop are now suspended with further updates will follow.

All services operating in Buxton have also been suspended other than the 199 and Trans Peak.
