Van flipped during 'serious crash' on M1 near Tibshelf

Motorists have been advised to avoid the M1 after a ‘serious crash’ left a van overturned in the middle of the motorway.

Highways England said the incident, which also involved a car, happened on the northbound carriageway between Junction 27, Langley Mill and Junction 28, Tibshelf, this morning, Saturday, November 7.

The motorway was closed while East Midlands Ambulance Service, Derbyshire Police and Derbyshire Fire & Rescue attended.

Diversions were put in place for traffic and traffic is heavy surrounding the incident.

A spokesman from Highways England speaking at 10am said: “There are 30 minute delays on the approach to this M1 incident above usual journey times, traffic is spanning 2.5 miles back towards the J27 exit. Average speeds on approach to the incident are 30 mph.”

A police spokesman added: “Please avoid the area as there will be traffic backed up and long delays.”

It is not currently known if someone was injured in the incident.
