Police and ambulances at scene of four-car M1 crash with drivers stuck in 11-mile queues

Two lanes remain shut on the M1 southbound in Derbyshire with long delays after a four-vehicle crash.

Traffic is reportedly queueing for 11 miles heading South from J29A for Markham Vale to J29 at Chesterfield following the accident just before 7am this morning (10 December).

Highways England tweeted at 9am: “Our crews at scene have moved all vehicles into lanes 1 and 2 allowing traffic to run through lanes 3 and 4.

"You should start to see some of the tailbacks clearing shortly.”

A Derbyshire Constabulary spokesperson said they are not aware of any serious injuries.

They said: “We received a call at 6.55am to reports of a collision on the M1 southbound, just before junction 29, involving several vehicles.

"We understand there were no serious injuries and Highways managed the road closure.”

East Midlands Ambulance service confirmed an ambulance was sent to the crash scene.

Stagecoach Yorkshire tweeted that Service 1 and 1a have been delayed due to traffic following the accident.
