M1 in Derbyshire reopens after multi-vehicle crash causes heavy traffic and lane closures

The M1 in Derbyshire has fully reopened following a crash which caused heavy traffic and lane closures.

Two lanes were closed on the northbound carriageway due to the multi-vehicle collision between junction 28 for Alfreton/ Mansfield and junction 29 for Chesterfield/ Mansfield earlier today (August 12).

According to traffic monitoring site Inrix, the accident involved a lorry.

In an update shortly before 5pm, Highways England said: “The scene is now clear and all lanes have re-opened on the #M1 northbound between J28 and J29 following an earlier collision.

“There are residual delays of around 57 minutes above normal journey times and 8 miles of congestion. Please allow extra time for your journey. Thank you.”
