M1 Derbyshire crash driver nearly two times over legal drink drive limit

A motorist who caused two lanes on the M1 near Derbyshire to close after crashing was nearly two times over the legal drink drive limit.

On Saturday morning, lanes one and two on the northbound carriageway between J28 and J29 were closed after the car “left the carriageway” and crashed, according to Derbyshire Police.

Emergency services attended the incident at around 6.09 am and made the scene safe. The road reopened later that morning.

On Sunday, police confirmed the driver blew 60 microgrammes of alcohol when breathalysed. The legal limit is 35. A blood sample was also obtained from the driver in hospital.

The force also confirmed the driver received minor injuries in the crash – and said it was ‘lucky’ nobody was killed.
