LiveM1 closure near Chesterfield: Lanes reopen in both directions after fallen power line fire
Traffic is now flowing slowly in both directions on the M1 near Chesterfield, after Highways England reopened the motorway between junction 29 and junction 29A.
The M1 is back open again southbound from junction 30 in Barlborough to junction 29A at Markham Vale Services.
But long delays and tailbacks are expected following the motorway being closed for two hours this afternoon.
It comes after a power line fell on a patch of grass near the motorway which then set alight.

- Lengthy delays expected as congestion built up during closures this afternoon
Lanes now reopen in BOTH directions
Fire started by fallen power cable
Officers were alerted to the blaze at 12.15pm today (April 20) from a passerby who reported that a power cable had come down from a pylon.
The fallen line had then set an area of grass next to the motorway alight.
Luckily, no one has been injured.
Length delays expected on M1 close to Chesterfield after temporary closure
There will be long tailbacks on the M1 in both directions close to Chesterfield, following traffic which has built up after the fire caused by a power line meant the motorway was shut.
Highways England closed all lanes on the motorway from junction 29 which connects with the A617 to Chesterfield to junction 29A at Markham Vale Services, leading to the A6192 in Bolsover.
While the the M1 is now back open northbound, southbound from junction 30 in Barlborough to junction 29A at Markham Vale Services remains closed.

M1 northbound from junction 29 to junction 29A reopen following fire
The M1 northbound between junction 29 and junction 29A close to Chesterfield has been reopened, after a fire started due to a fallen power line earlier this afternoon.
Highways England previously closed all lanes in both directions on the motorway from junction 29 which connects with the A617 to Chesterfield to junction 29A at Markham Vale Services, leading to the A6192 in Bolsover.
The M1 is now back open northbound, while southbound from junction 30 in Barlborough to junction 29A at Markham Vale Services remains closed.
