Town centre lease no longer for sale

The leasehold on Bolsover's market area has been withdrawn from an auction in Sheffield.

The 200-year leasehold on the land was due to go under the hammer for £60,000 but was pulled from the bid at the 11th hour.

It is understood that the historic square is owned jointly by Bolsover District Council and Old Bolsover Town Council but a third party was trying to sell the lease at an auction on May 16.

The land was used as a permanent market until the 1990s but is currently used mainly for the farmer’s and Christmas markets.

Meanwhile, Bolsover folk have taken to social media to suggest their own uses for the land.

Shane Davidson-Ward said: “It would be the ideal place for the market, in my opinion.”

Lee Cundy said: “It would make a nice pharmacy or cafe - not enough of those in Bolsover.”

Derbyshire Times approached auctioneers Mark Jenkinson and Son for comment but no-one was available.

In addition, no-one was available for comment at Old Bolsover Town Council or Bolsover District Council.
