The Buxton Spa Prize, which was launched at the Pavilion Arts Centre as part of a joint event with Buxton Festival, aims to bring artists to the town this summer to capture its stunning scenery on canvas.

The main prize of £5,000 is also accompanied by an unusual category, The Harold Riley Sketchbook Prize, which invites entrants to enter a sketchbook of their choice.

“We are so pleased to be giving artists the opportunity to share rarely seen insights into the creative process,” said Trevor Osborne, Developer of the Crescent Hotel and Thermal Water Spa.

The winning painting will be chosen on September 11 by Randall Shannon, Executive Director of Buxton Festival.

And a piece created for the competition will be featured on the front cover of the 2015 festival brochure.

Other prizes on offer include family holiday accommodation.
